NERVEsustain™ - Peripheral Nerve Support

The rise of Type 2 Diabetes has increased the number of those living with painful long-term consequences of deregulated blood sugar, including peripheral neuropathy. NERVEsustain nourishes nerve health with an array of bioactive B vitamins known to be integral in maintaining proper nerve function. In addition, a combination of these vitamins supports healthy homocysteine levels. High homocysteine and associated MTHFR polymorphisms may be other risk factors in diminished nerve health. Certain common medications given to balance blood glucose have been studied to deplete some of these important B vitamins over time. Protect nerve health with optimal amounts of supportive nutrients delivered in a single daily capsule.

Overview:

The rise of type II diabetes has increased the number of people living with painful long-term consequences of deregulated blood sugar, including peripheral neuropathy. NERVEsustain™ nourishes nerve health with an array of bioactive B vitamins known to be integral in maintaining proper nerve function. Certain common medications given to balance blood glucose have been studied to deplete some of these important B vitamins over time. In addition, a combination of these vitamins supports healthy homocysteine levels. High homocysteine and associated MTHFR polymorphisms may be other risk factors in diminished nerve health. Protect nerve health with optimal amounts of supportive nutrients delivered in a single daily capsule.

What is NERVEsustain™?

Peripheral neuropathy is a primary complication associated with type II diabetes. As the number of people diagnosed with type II diabetes continues to grow, there has been a similar rise in the number of people suffering from its complications—one of which is peripheral neuropathy.

In addition to an increase in the sheer number of patients with type II diabetes, more diagnoses are being made at an earlier age, leading to patients spending a longer portion of their life span under diabetic conditions. As diabetes increases the risk of issues related to dysregulated blood sugar, the earlier one is diagnosed (or the longer the diabetic period in a person’s life), the greater the probability they will at some point experience adverse complications from the disease.

NERVEsustainTM for Peripheral Nerve Support is designed to provide a full range of B vitamins associated with protecting and maintaining nerve health. Healthy nerves rely on adequate levels of certain B vitamins, but there are occasional roadblocks that stand in the way of attaining those levels. Some functions that require the intake of specific vitamins may be negatively affected by common medications (such as Metformin), which can deplete levels of certain B vitamins. Additionally, an MTHFR genetic polymorphism can affect the body’s ability to properly process folate.

Separate from vitamin deficiency, nerve health is significantly affected by glucose balance. Imbalanced glucose levels can, over time, lead to symptoms of burning, tingling, and numbness stemming from peripheral neuropathy. These effects may be exacerbated by vitamin deficiency. Designed to protect nerve health as conveniently as possible, NERVEsustainTM delivers optimal amounts of nutrients in a single daily capsule.

How does NERVEsustainTM Work?

NERVEsustainTM contains L-5-MTHF, the bioactive form of folate. A deficiency of folate is known to cause neuropathy symptoms. A deficiency of folate is also associated with high homocysteine levels, yet another risk factor for an increased incidence of neuropathy. Folate needs may be increased in those taking medications that are known to deplete folate, including anticonvulsants, oral contraceptives, and medications designed to control blood sugar. In addition, useful folate levels are affected in a certain percentage of the population with the MTHFR gene polymorphism. The C677T polymorphism is associated with a greater risk of both high homocysteine and diabetic neuropathy. L-methylfolate is the bioactive form of folate that bypasses the MTHFR enzyme, and so is useful for all consumers, with or without genetic abnormalities.

Methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12) is another vitamin that can cause neuropathic issues when levels are depleted. Vitamin B12 deficiency is common, especially in the elderly and in strict vegetarians. B12 levels are also influenced by the amount of stomach acid present in an individual and the intrinsic factors available to assist in absorption—these tend to wane as people age and are negatively influenced by common medications that reduce stomach acid. Gastric bypass surgery and issues from Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis can also result in difficulty absorbing B12. Studies show that oral forms of B12 can be as effective as injections for replenishing body stores.

The myelin sheath that surrounds nerves both protects them and aids in the fast transmission of information. A B12 deficiency can lead to the degradation of this protective sheath, leading to damage to nerves and symptoms of tingling, burning, and numbness. B12 is also a cofactor involved in maintaining normal homocysteine levels.

Pyridoxal 5’ Phosphate (Vitamin B6) deficiency can also create neuropathy issues manifesting as tingling and pain in hands and feet. Drugs such as antibiotics, oral contraceptives and the class of antidepressants known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors can all deplete B6. B6 is a cofactor needed for the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine.

Riboflavin is involved in the healthy metabolism of other B vitamins, including folate and B6. As such, it has a positive influence over homocysteine levels. It is also a cofactor for the MTHFR enzyme, aiding in the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine.

Thiamine is depleted by excessive alcohol consumption. Alcohol use can create alcohol-induced neuropathy, which can be made worse by the depleting effect of alcohol on body stores of thiamine.

Magnesium is involved in the normal transmission of nerve impulses. When glucose levels are high, the body requires more magnesium, which means those with diabetes are at a higher risk of deficiency. Magnesium is involved in modulating normal insulin response.

Ascorbyl Palmitate is a fat-soluble form of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant for tissue protection and some studies have shown it has the potential to boost the bioavailability of L-methylfolate.

High homocysteine is associated with a greater risk of peripheral neuropathy in those suffering from diabetes. The MTHFR C677T polymorphism (homozygous) is associated with an increased risk of high homocysteine levels, as well as the depletion of folate, B12, and B6. The combination of L-methylfolate and methylcobalamin is important for the reduction of homocysteine, and both B6 and riboflavin act as cofactors in this process.
