The Science
Histamines are part of the body's natural immune system response to help identify foreign invaders. Histamine response is triggered by unfamiliar compounds like pet dander, pollen, and dust and can also be found in certain foods. When histamines are released in the body they can stimulate further production, which causes a positive feedback loop. This can lead to increased mucus production, a runny nose, coughing, and itching. HistPro works to mitigate an excessive response with a formulation of ingredients designed to interrupt and decrease the release of histamines. Quercetin is a biologically active flavonoid and antioxidant, known for its ability to stabilize mast cells and support healthy levels of histamines.
Quercetin is widely found in plants including oak trees, onions, and tea. It has strong antioxidant properties and has been shown to support immune health by mediating the release of inflammatory compounds including leukotrienes and prostaglandins. Quercetin is known for its ability to stabilize mast cells, diminishing the release of histamine, the compound known to cause hypersensitivity reactions during seasonal changes. Urtica dioica (stinging nettle) plant has been shown to balance immune response, specifically in the airways and nasal passages that can support respiratory health. The leaf extract controls mast-cell degranulation, prostaglandin formation, and histamine action all contributing to a balanced inflammatory response.
Bromelain is a natural enzyme found on the stem and fruit of a pineapple plant. It is a proteolytic enzyme that aids in the breakdown of large protein complexes, including antigenic compounds, and has been shown to enhance the absorption of quercetin.
Butterbur contains petasins that are known to help maintain healthy levels of histamine and leukotrienes. They also are thought to decrease priming of mast cells related to environmental sensitivities.
Perilla may also reduce environmental sensitivities and associated symptoms.
N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is an amino acid precursor to one of the most important antioxidants in the body, glutathione. Both glutathione and NAC help reduce the viscosity of the mucus allowing for clearing of the airways and improved respiratory health.
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient meaning it cannot be synthesized by the body and must be consumed through dietary intake. Vitamin C has numerous health-promoting benefits, including its known role in immune system support and potent antioxidant properties.
During significant amounts of stress, both emotional and environmental, vitamin C is excreted rapidly. Alongside its many immune-boosting properties, Vitamin C is distinctively beneficial for individuals with seasonal discomfort due to its ability to deactivate histamines.
